Arsenal flop Yaya Sanogo ends 18-month football exile as he signs for Armenian minnows FC Urartu after Huddersfield axe

ARSENAL flop Yaya Sanogo has finally found himself a club after joining Armenian side FC Urartu.

The French striker, 30, joined the Gunners back in 2013 on a free transfer after his deal with Auxerre expired.

But he scored just one goal in 20 appearances for Arsenal and eventually left to join Toulouse in 2017.

That came after loan spells with Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton, with the three short-term moves leading to a total of just four goals for Sanogo.

Three underwhelming seasons followed in Ligue 1, before he joined Huddersfield in February 2021.

Just three months later, it was confirmed by the Championship outfit that his deal would not be extended.

Ever since then, Sanogo has been searching for a route back into football.

Now he has been given that chance as Armenian club FC Urartu have taken a punt on the forward who played eight times for France’s U21s between 2011 and 2014.

In their statement, Urartu said: “We are happy to welcome Sanogo in Urartu FC and wish him successful performances in our squad.”

They also confirmed he will wear the No99 shirt.

Despite a disappointing stint with Arsenal, Sanogo does have an FA Cup winner’s medal after making four appearances in the Gunners’ run to Wembley in 2014.

He even came off the bench in the final, helping the North London outfit to come from 2-1 down to beat Hull 3-2 in a dramatic extra-time triumph.

His other pieces of silverware are the 2014 Community Shield and 2013 U20 World Cup which he won with France.
