And he has become an instant hit among supporters on Tyneside and recently signed a new five-year deal.

Included in the contract is a release clause worth £100million and Gooners have backed Arsenal to match it.

That is because Guimaraes showed his public support for Gabriel Martinelli, who scored the winning goal against Manchester City.

Guimaraes commented “Martishow” on his international team-mate’s Instagram post.

And Gooners let their imagination run wild as one said: “We’re triggering that release clause brother sit tight.”

Another added: “We will trigger your release clause brother.”

Guimaraes – who joined Newcastle from Lyon – has spoken out publicly about Arsenal’s previous interest in him.

He told Globo via GFFN in 2021:  “Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer.

“My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon. The fans have not had one for a long time.

“We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen.

“My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”

Guimaraes was unable to lead Lyon to silverware but he contributed to Newcastle’s top four finish last season.

Now Eddie Howe’s side sit eighth and unbeaten in four after a difficult start to the new campaign.
