Andy Carroll, 34, gets off to flyer in Amiens debut as England cult hero comes off bench to transform game


ANDY CARROLL got off to the perfect start at new club Amiens as he helped transform the game as a subsitiute.

The 34-year-old made the surprise switch to the French second division side last week, choosing to leave League One side Reading.

Carroll, who wears the No99 shirt at Amiens, came on as a 66th minute substitute versus Guingamp with the match level at 1-1.

And he got off to a dream start as just 11 minutes into his debut they scored to go 2-1 up.

Former Chelsea wonderkid Gael Kakuta then found the back of the net before Louis Mafouta made it 4-1 to wrap up the three points.

Carroll joined his new team-mates in a line to celebrate the win by jumping on the pitch in front the Amines ultras.

The club are second in the Ligue 2 table after four matches and are eyeing promotion to the top-flight.

Carroll’s move across the Channel has been dubbed the “most random transfer ever” by fans.

It represents a huge drop in standard from when he was signed by Liverpool from Newcastle for £35million in 2011.

Carroll has been capped nine times by England and is a cult hero at his former club West Ham.

He had spent the last three seasons in the Championship with West Brom and Reading.

Carroll is married to reality star Billi Mucklow with her and their children in the stands for his Amiens debut.
