ADEBAYO AKINFENWA had his last minute penalty saved by an outfielder in a shocking twist at the end of a non-league game.
The 40-year-old striker was unable to level the game for his new team, Faversham Town, at the death despite having a wealth of experience at a professional level and facing an outfield player between the sticks.
The game took place between Faversham and opponents Sittingbourne in the Isthmian League South East division.
The penalty was awarded in the 94th minute with Sittingbourne 1-0 up, but their keeper Harley Earle picked up an injury in the process and was unable to continue.
Outfield player Harrison Pont was forced to step up and face the penalty from Akinfenwa as a result.
Miraculously, Pont denied the former Wycombe striker his chance of glory and made sure his side secured all three points.
