Nieves presented him with a cupcake and a candle before he was spotted smiling after receiving a birthday cake.

Colon also received a signed boxing glove from rapper Daddy Yankee.

Now fans were glad to see the tragic star in high spirits once again after his mum provided a fresh update.

Wearing a vest and red hat, Nieves grabbed the hands of her son and danced with him as the tunes blasted out in the background.

The Puerto Rican fighter suffered a bleed on the brain back in 2015 following his fight with Terrel Williams.

Colon was subjected to repeated blows to the back of his head during the bout, which caused part of his skull to collapse.

The boxer managed to leave the ring on his own but became dizzy and nauseous in the dressing room.

Colon went into a coma for 221 days and has since been looked after at Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Orange Park, Florida.

Nieves regularly provides updates on her son’s health on social media.

Earlier this year she posted a video titled “Prichard Colon-Melendez 5K run for the woods” that featured a clip of Colon on a trail in a specially adapted mobility chair.

It remains unclear how much the former sportsman may recover from the damage but many will take this fresh update as him showing good progress.

Meanwhile, former heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder broke down in tears while discussing Colon’s condition following his win over Robert Helenius a year ago.

The Bronze Bomber pointed to Colon as an example of the dangers boxers face when they enter the ring and showed sympathy for his fellow fighter.
