Wolves agree £35million fee for Goncalo Guedes with Valencia striker jetting in to seal transfer today

WOLVES plan to plug their striker hole with Goncalo Guedes.

Wanderers fans were concerned they were short up front on the eve of the season and that is how it looked in Saturday’s 2-1 opening day defeat at Leeds.

Daniel Podence gave them an early lead at Elland Road but they then failed to capitalise on periods of dominance as the hosts turned it around.

First-choice front-man Raul Jimenez is likely to be sidelined with a knee injury for up to eight games.

And the loan of £35million man Fabio Silva to Anderlecht means boss Bruno Lage is lacking a focal point for his attack.

Now reports have emerged saying they have agreed a deal worth up to £35m for Valencia forward Guedes.

A fee of £27.5m plus add-ons is said to be in place for the Portugal star.

The 25-year-old is thought to be travelling to England today for a medical ahead of signing his contract.

The versatile star can play up front and as a winger and has scored 36 goals in 178 appearances for the La Liga giants.

Guedes will be Wolves’ second summer signing following last month’s £20m capture of Burnley centre-half Nathan Collins, 21.

It could be a busy week on the transfer front for the Molineux club with skipper Conor Coady primed to join Everton.

Football Daily have reported the England star is set to move on loan with an option to buy as the Toffees look for cover in the wake of the broken leg suffered by Ben Godfrey against Chelsea on Saturday.
