Wolves 2 Aston Villa 1: Jonny volley and Young own goal boost Wolves’ top-six bid as Watkins replies with late penalty

WOLVES boosted their top-six hopes as Jonny’s volley and Ashley Young’s own goal deservedly sunk Villa.

Ollie Watkins bagged a late penalty reply as Steven Gerrard’s men awoke only in the final half-hour.

Defender Jonny poached the home side’s opener on seven minutes.

Daniel Podence and Fabio Silva had shots blocked after Villa gave the ball away just inside the Wolves half, with Jonny lashing home the loose ball.

Then early Villa sub Young watched in horror as his flying header into his own net doubled the home side’s lead on 36 minutes.

But four minutes from time Watkins set up a frenetic finale with a spot-kick after he himself was brought down by Jose Sa.
