‘What is he doing?’ – Eric Dier slammed by Tottenham fans for fluffed clearance that led to Brentford goal

ERIC DIER has been slammed by Tottenham fans after his fluffed clearance led to Brentford’s second goal.

Spurs were all over the place for the opening hour and looked doomed to defeat after going 2-0 down to their London rivals.

Dier’s mistake compounded an initially poor team performance as Antonio Conte’s men almost sleepwalked into Boxing Day embarrassment.

But the away side rallied in the second-half and rescued a point.

Spurs fans were still left annoyed at Eric Dier’s mistake early in the second-half.

The England defender sliced a bouncing ball that he was trying to clear, accidentally knocking it out for a corner.

Brentford then scored from the resulting set-piece as Christian Norgaard flicked on a cross which Ivan Toney poked home at the far post to make it 2-0.

Tottenham supporters were not happy with Dier’s contribution to the goal.

One said on Twitter: “If that Donkey Dier gets a new contract, they can forget my season ticket renewal.”

Another said: “Compare the difference in composure the likes of [Ivan] Perisic and [Dejan] Kulusevski have to that of Dier it’s night and day.”

While another irritated fan said: “As soon as Dier sliced it for a corner it was guaranteed to be a goal and it was always always always going to be Toney. Spursy.”

Dier had been praised for his form for several months but has made a couple of high-profile mistakes in recent games.

Fans were not impressed with a mistake against Frankfurt in the Champions League, and he was also culpable for Mo Salah’s second goal when Liverpool won in North London last month.

Luckily for Dier, Spurs mounted an unlikely comeback to nick a point.

Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg both struck as Tottenham managed to avoid defeat in their first Premier League game since the World Cup.
