He then annoyed the Arsenal faithful even more after scoring his first appearance against them, then ran to the other end of the pitch and slid on his knees in front of the travelling Arsenal fans.

He later apologised for this, suggesting that his emotions got the better of him.

After a decent first season in Manchester, Adebayor found his opportunities limited following the arrival of Mario Balotelli, and moved to Real Madrid on loan.

Following the end of his loan deal, he then moved on loan to Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham.

After a successful first season at the Lilywhites, where he scored 17 goals in 33 Premier League appearances, Adebayor signed for Tottenham on a permanent deal.

The next few seasons proved difficult, with the Togolese hitman falling in and out of favour with the next three managers he played under.

He was a regular starter under Tim Sherwood, after he was told to train with the reserves under Andre Villas-Boas.

Mauricio Pochettino also used the striker sparingly, mainly because of the emergence of Harry Kane.

Adebayor was released form his Tottenham contract at the end of the 2014/15 season.

He signed for Crystal Place afterwards, but only scored one goal in 15 appearances for the Eagles, and was released at the end of the 2015/16 season.

During his time in Turkey, Adebayor scored hattricks on two different occasions against Galatasaray.

He finished his first full season at the club with 17 goals in 36 appearances. He left at the end of the following season.

He joined fellow Turkish side Kayserispor on a short term deal, but failed to make an impact in his four months at the club.

He eventually left European football to join Paraguayan club Olimpia in 2020, but his contract was terminated after just four appearances with the club.
