KURT Zouma’s two cats “will remain in care after being checked over by vets,” the RSPCA confirmed.

The West Ham defender, 27, had his pets seized following the sickening clip showing him drop-kick and slap one of the cats at his £2million mansion.

Now the animal welfare charity has confirmed that the cats will remain in their care while the probe continues.

And the pets taken from the shamed footballer are not up for rehoming, they said.

A “full and thorough” investigation into Zouma’s animal abuse is still underway – after he was fined £250,000 by West Ham.

An RSPCA spokesperson said: “Two cats are in our care, have been seen by a vet and are being well looked after. 

“They will remain in our care while the investigation continues and are not available for rehoming although we have lots of beautiful cats who are looking for new homes.

“We understand the high level of interest in this incident and can reassure you that our experienced officers are carrying out a full and thorough investigation.

But the crisis is only deepening for Zouma after The Sun revealed the awful video, filmed by his laughing brother Yoan.

He has lost his Adidas footwear sponsorship, and cops in France say he could face four years behind bars.

Vitality has now dropped its sponsorship with West Ham – as has Florida-based tourism authority Experience Kissimmee.

In a further punishment, centre-back Zouma has been axed by West Ham for at least their next match — a Premier League game at Leicester on Sunday.

The player was at the centre of more controversy when David Moyes put him in the Hammers’ starting line-up just hours after The Sun highlighted the sickening video footage.

Zouma looked shaken as he was booed and jeered by both sets of fans during his side’s 1-0 home win over Watford at the London Stadium.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker said: “Shocked and appalled that West Ham played Zouma last night. A tone deaf decision.”

The defender issued a grovelling apology and said both of his cats are “perfectly fine”.

“I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret,” he said.

“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.

“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

A West Ham spokesman said: “Like everyone at the club, he fully understands the depth of feeling surrounding the incident and the need for action to be taken.

“West Ham United would like to reiterate our condemnation of Kurt’s actions and make it clear that the matter continues to be handled with the utmost seriousness.”
