WAYNE Rooney yesterday admitted using eye drops to cover up the effects of his two-day benders before training.
The former England and Manchester United star said he would use the drops, chewing gum and mouthwash to disguise his hangovers.
Wayne, 36, made the confession in a series of interviews to promote his new Amazon Prime documentary Rooney, which premiered in Manchester on Wednesday.
He said: “I’d get a couple of days off and I wouldn’t want to be near anyone. I would sit in the house and for two days, I would just drink.
“Then on the third day, when I was back in training, I would have to dust myself down and put eye drops in and get through that week’s training. I was in a really bad place.”
Drops can help make the eyes look less bloodshot. The Sun unearthed pictures from 2011 showing the star putting in eye drops while sitting in his car.
It was the year he told then manager Sir Alex Ferguson he wanted to leave the club — before signing a new deal and winning his fourth Premier League title.
Rooney, now boss of Championship side Derby County, also admitted yesterday that he feared he could kill someone or himself during his binge drinking.

‘Save myself’
Asked on BBC Breakfast about his greatest fears when he was boozing, he responded: “My death. I think. As I said before, you make mistakes, which I did. And that could have been girls, it could have been drink-driving, which I’ve done. It could have been killing someone.
“You could kill yourself and that’s a bad place to be so I knew I needed help. I knew I had to get that help in order to save myself, but also to save my family.”
The Three Lions and Red Devils record goalscorer has already revealed that he sought therapy to control his demons.
His wife of 13 years, Coleen, 35, breaks down in tears in the new documentary and says she felt anger over the striker’s off-pitch antics. She says friends asked why she had stuck with Wayne after he was caught having sex with prostitutes behind her back.
She added that she chose not to leave him, partly for the sake of their boys Kai, Klay, Cass and Kit. Defiant Coleen lashed out at critics of her marriage on Twitter yesterday — by telling everyone to mind their own business.
She posted a snap of her alongside Wayne on the red carpet at the documentary premiere.
I knew I had to get that help in order to save myself, but also to save my family.

She tweeted: “I am who I am…. He is who he is . . . We are what we are and that’s that!!!! Life is for living, life goes on, life is not perfect at all and you know what . . . it’s OUR life no one else’s. God bless.”
Coleen has admitted Wayne is no longer allowed to drink unsupervised — as we revealed on Saturday.
She insists he has a responsible adult — either her brother Joe or someone else she trusts — to keep an eye on him.
