United icon Rooney recently admitted Ronaldo is “not the player” he used to be – but still backed his old Red Devils team-mate to shine this season at 37-years-old.

Ex-Norway international Jan Age Fjortoft claimed on Twitter that he had seen Rooney on a visit to Carrington.

DC United boss Rooney is back in the UK after his team finished rock bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference and failed to qualify for the play-offs.

He was seen in Cheshire last week after jetting home to see wife Coleen and their four sons.

And he reported to have paid a visit to his former stomping ground.

Ronaldo was also pictured on Tuesday reporting for duty at Carrington.

The Portuguese arrived in his bulky £150,000 Cadillac with twin brother bodyguards Sergio and Jorge Ramalheiro close behind in a Range Rover.

CR7 has scored just two goals in 12 games this season, and has largely been relegated to the bench by United boss Erik ten Hag.

Old team-mate Rooney spoke out on Ronaldo’s struggles earlier this month.

Roo said: “The manager’s obviously gone a different way in terms of how they’re playing and been successful.

“Cristiano… him and Lionel Messi are two of the greatest players to ever play the game, but ultimately time catches up with us all.

“He’s obviously not the player he was when he was 22 or 23, for instance. It’s a tough one for him.

“Knowing him, it’ll be very difficult for him to sit on the bench. I’m sure if he stays patient, his chance will come and, again, it’s then obviously him taking those chances and trying to force his way back in.”
