We revealed on Saturday Coleen now insists on him being chaperoned on nights out to save their 13-year marriage.
But, ahead of new Amazon biopic Rooney, he said: “My relationship with drink now is fine.
“No problems. I still have a drink now and again. Not like I used to. Not like when I was playing. It’s well in control.
“It was never at a stage where I thought I was an alcoholic.”
