Antony only arrived for £85million this week but was thrust straight into the starting 11 against Arsenal by Erik ten Hag.

Fellow United newcomer Casemiro, signed for £70m from Real Madrid, was left on the bench.

But his manager was confident Antony understood his system enough from their time spent in Holland.

Ten Hag said: “He knows the style we want to play and what we expect and demand.

“He can be an offensive threat in one on ones, his speed – that makes the choice to play him.”

United started with Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes ahead of Scott McTominay, leaving no room for Casemiro.

Ten Hag added: “He is new in the team, he has to adapt to the team. He has to get used to my way of playing football.

“The other thing, Scott McTominay is playing really well.”

Bukayo Saka later equalised but a double from Rashford handed his side the win and condemned Arsenal to their first defeat of the season.
