Wales to discuss Rob Page’s future this week with Dragons interim boss drawing interest for vacant Burnley job

WALES chiefs will discuss Robert Page’s future at a council meeting this week.

The Dragons interim boss has admirers from managerless Premier League outfit Burnley after impressing on the international stage.

Page, who has filled in for Ryan Giggs since his arrest in November 2020, is on a match by match contract with the Football Association of Wales.

His current deal will expire at the end of Wales’ World Cup campaign – either if they lose in the June 5 play-off final against Scotland and Ukraine in Cardiff or whenever their journey in Qatar finishes if they reach the finals.

Despite leading Wales to Euro 2020, winning promotion to the top tier of the Nations League and taking the nation to just one match from qualification to a global finals for the first time in 64 years as well as just four defeats in 21 matches, no new contract has been offered by the FAW to Page.

And FAW council members are keen to get an update on Page’s situation when they meet in Wrexham on Tuesday.

SunSport understands Page has many supporters within the FAW to be given the job full-time – regardless of the outcome of Giggs’ domestic violence case which is due to be held in August.

As we exclusively reported last week, the 47-year-old also has the backing of Wales’ senior players.

While former internationals such as John Hartson and the majority of Welsh fans, known as the ‘Red Wall’, also want Page to stay on whether they reach the World Cup or not.
