Turkish FA headquarters hit by gunfire with ex-Real Madrid star Hamit Altintop forced to duck for cover as two arrested


TWO suspects have been arrested after allegedly shooting the building of the Turkish Football Federation in a terrifying attack.

Former Real, Bayern Munich and Galatasaray midfielder Hamit Altintop has revealed how he threw himself to the ground as the Turkish FA was peppered with bullets.

According to Hurriyet Daily News, nobody was hurt in the horror ordeal.

It has been claimed that a total of 11 shots were fired with five rounds striking the building of the Turkish Football Federation.

Altintop, who is one of the Federation’s leaders, has told of his fright during the attack in Istanbul.

He said: “We threw ourselves to the ground as soon as we heard the shots.”

Altintop, who retired in 2018 with 82 international caps for Turkey, was on hand to help with the Champions League group stage draw last month.

He won the LaLiga title with Real in 2012, two Bundesliga crowns with Bayern as well as two Super Lig championships during his spell at Galatasaray.

Investigations are ongoing over the incident, with two suspects arrested shortly after the shooting.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has described the assailants as being “drunk”.

The news outlet claims that shots were fired at the office of the TFF president along with a meeting room on the lower floor.

A meeting was taking place between board members of the TFF when bullets started to fly.

Omer Celik – a spokesperson for the ruling Turkish party – has confirmed that the incident took place on Thursday.

He also stated that he has spoken with TFF chief Mehmet Buyukeksi on the phone where he wished him well after the attack.
