Tottenham make hilarious dig at Marseille by posting firework emoji after fans had kept team awake with firecrackers

TOTTENHAM fired back at Marseille with a cracker of a gag after a stunning Champions League win.

Home fans kept Spurs awake before the match with 1am pyrotechnics but the Londoners put Marseille to bed on the pitch before posting: “BANG” – next to a firework emoji.

This noisy late-night fireworks extravaganza from Marseille failed to prevent Spurs pulling off a dramatic Champions League win in France

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg lid the fuse on wild celebrations with a 95th-minute clincher as Tottenham came from behind to finish top of their Champions League group.

And they did it despite every effort from Marseille supporters to unsettle them.

First came two deafening salvoes of fireworks at around 1am and 4am.

Then flares were set off before the match.

And defender Chancel Mbemba thought he had lit the fuse on a memorable night for Marseille with an opener in first-half stoppage time.

But despite Spurs often being on the backfoot, Clement Lenglet headed a clever equaliser soon after the break and Hojbjerg nicked it at the death.

Tottenham fans then lapped up the club’s fiery but cheeky reference on social media to the disruptive fireworks.

“Hahaha” and “lol” popped up more times than Harry Kane does in the box as Twitter gave Marseille a rocket after Spurs avenged pre-match antics.

One fan also posted: “Tottenham has more last minute winners than any European team this season!!!”

Meanwhile, keeper Hugo Lloris had a banger of a victory verdict.

The Frenchman told BT Sport: “It was a tough night, a great battle and even more [of a psychological battle].

“We could feel in the first half a team was playing without the fear to lose – it was Marseille – and in the second half we had a team that was fearing to lose – and it was us.

“When we had to face difficulties, we showed great personality and it’s a great result.”
