Tottenham 1 Wolves 0: Kane breaks Aguero’s Premier League goal record and becomes highest scoring player for single club

HARRY KANE surpassed Sergio Aguero’s one-club Premier League goals record after scoring the winner against Wolves to fire Tottenham to the top of the league.

Two days after the 10th anniversary of his top-flight debut, the England captain scored his 185th top flight goal for Spurs after he was third time lucky with a string of headers.

The visitors were the better side in the first half and even though Spurs were much improved after the break, boss Bruno Lage will feel hard done by not to have claimed a point.

But by winning their third game of the season, Tottenham went top of the Premier League – just like last season.

We all remember what happened next under former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

If Antonio Conte is to keep them up there this time, they will have to play better, and for longer, than this.

And even Kane won’t be able to dig them out of a hole every time.

Just as at Chelsea the previous weekend, Tottenham were poor in the first half.

Wolves looked like the home team and created a number of half chances.

Daniel Podence fluffed the best of them after Emerson Royal’s botched clearance and debutant Matheus Nunes sent a cute header fractionally wide.

Spurs did not have an effort on goal until the 45th minute when Ivan Perisic finally escaped the attentions of Pedro Neto for the first time.

The Croatian, making his first start, put in a fine cross, Kane produced an even better header but Jose Sa tipped the ball behind for a corner.

The mild booing from the home fans at half time was deserved.

Tottenham came out like a team who had received a monstering from Conte at half time

After some sustained pressure, Dejan Kulusevski sent in a fine cross and Kane beat Sa, but not the crossbar, with a header.

Son Heung-Min’s poor game continued as he failed to make the most of one opening and sent another shot against a post.

Something finally went right for Son at last when his near-post corner was headed on by Perisic and Kane nodded home unmarked at the back post.

It was Premier League goal No185 for Kane, surpassing former record holder Aguero’s 184 for Manchester City.

Kane leapfrogged former England team-mate Wayne Rooney last week with his late equaliser against Chelsea.

Now DC United boss Rooney struck 183 times for Manchester United in the top flight.

Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer make up the rest of the top five on 175 and 148 goals respectively.

Ruben Neves went close with a free kick as Wolves tried to find the equaliser their first-half performance deserved.

Substitute Raul Jimenez did everything right except the final ball after a charge down the right.

But right now, the momentum – and luck – is with Tottenham.

And If Kane can keep making the difference, maybe it will stay that way.
