SIR Alex Ferguson was given a hero’s welcome upon his return to Pittodrie this afternoon.
The legendary coach had a hugely successful spell at Aberdeen, leading the Dons to three Scottish Premier Division titles, four Scottish Cup wins and a European Super Cup during his tenure.

As part of his homecoming the ex-Manchester United manager also took in the New Firm Derby between Aberdeen and Dundee United this afternoon.
Fergie was mobbed by fans upon his arrival to the ground and stopped to sign autographs outside.
He also paused for a snap outside with his new statue alongside Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack.
The Scotsman then headed inside the ground where he was pictured chatting to Dons boss Jim Goodwin.
As the sell-out stadium began to fill up Fergie headed out prior to kick off to a standing ovation from the punters.

He headed onto the pitch to be presented with a miniature version of his statue to take home.
Meanwhile. Sir Alex Ferguson says he was quite enamoured with the large version of his statue at Pittodrie.
And details-obsessed Fergie joked sculptor Andy Edwards, who has cast Brian Clough, The Beatles and Bob Marley in the past, delighted him by being so precise over things like the exact distance from his ear to his chin.

He said: “We talk about details because it’s a really important part of life.
“Well I went down to meet Andy Edwards and his staff and he wanted to measure from my ear to my chin – that’s the level of detail he went into.
“So I thought, ‘yeah, you could work!’ “
