Rangnick vows to put ‘all his energy’ into helping Rashford rediscover goal-scoring form amid Man Utd’s striking woes

RALF RANGNICK has backed ‘abundant talent’ Marcus Rashford to return to top form with the star set to lead Manchester United’s attack against neighbours City.

The 187th Manchester derby will take place at the Etihad Stadium later this afternoon.

And the 24-year-old looks certain to play as No9 with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani set to miss out due to injury.

United head into the showdown in desperate need of boosting their top four hopes and ending their striking woes.

They had 22 shots against Watford last week but were still unable to prevent being held to a stalemate by the Hornets.

But Rangnick was happy to give Rashford, who only has five goals this term, a huge vote of confidence going into the City showdown.

And he vowed to help him rediscover his goalscoring boots.

The interim United boss said: “With Marcus Rashford, we have another player who I will insist and continuously be behind him and with him, to develop him.

“We have achieved that with quite a few other young players in the past and I don’t see why this should not happen with Marcus.

“He’s got abundant talent, he’s got the pace, he’s got the physicality, he’s got everything that you need for a modern striker, no matter if he’s playing from the wing or in the centre.

“I will put all my energy into that, to help him to take the same pathway that other players did in the last three months.”
