Rangers striker Kemar Roofe linked with shock move as Derby ‘weigh up’ loan bid

DERBY COUNTY are considering launching a shock loan bid for Rangers striker Kemar Roofe, according to a report.

The Rams have been busy in the transfer market this summer as they rebuild under new ownership after finally ending their crisis-laden administration spell, signing ELEVEN new players already.

The Sunday Mirror are reporting that the club, who will play in the third tier of English football in the season ahead, are ‘weighing up’ a loan move for Gers striker Roofe.

The 29-year old has proved a prolific goal scorer when fit at Ibrox, netting 34 goals since joining in August 2020.

Despite regularly finding the net, Roofe’s Gers spell has been blighted by injuries.

He managed just 21 Premiership appearances last term as regular knocks hampered his fitness.

Rangers paid £4.5 million to land Roofe from Anderlecht two years ago, and the former Leeds frontman still has two years left to run on his contract at the club.

With the future of Rangers’ main man up front, Alfredo Morelos, still seeming no clearer, it’s perhaps unlikely that the Light Blues would sanction any exit for Roofe.

Another striker, Cedric Itten, has already left the club this transfer window.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has added Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo to his attacking ranks at Ibrox.

Despite their relegation to League One, Derby have been able to attract some good talent to the club this summer.

Conor Hourihane dropped down from the Premier League and Aston Villa to sign up at Pride Park, while the likes of James Chester and David McGoldrick have also joined the club, bringing with them plenty of top level experience.

Meanwhile, the Gers have targeted a move for Ben Davies with Calvin Bassey nearing the exit door.

Liverpool centre back Davies, who almost joined CELTIC in January 2021, has been mooted as a potential replacement for Nigeria international Bassey who is closing in on a big-money move to Dutch giants Ajax.
