Ogden added: “He wasn’t someone Manchester United were actively looking at.
“That would set alarm bells ringing for me, that Man Utd aren’t looking at the best young player in the Bundesliga.”
Rangnick set the wheels in motion and started inquiring about Nkunku.
And the Red Devils were told they will need to pay £62.5million for the Leipzig star this summer.
Manchester City and Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring the Bundesliga star.
Nkunku’s tally includes a Champions League hat-trick against Pep Guardiola’s side.
