PREMIER LEAGUE clubs could get a fifth Champions League spot EVERY season under revamp plans thrashed out by Uefa chiefs today.
After two years of bitter debate and discussion, clubs, leagues and Europe’s governing body finally agreed the format of the new-look competition.

And they are set to start from the 2024-25 campaign.
The move from the current group based initial phase to a 36-team single league set up has been confirmed.
And while the plans to use five-year “historical coefficients” has been dumped following a widespread backlash, the last two places in the new competition will be based on club performances.
Under the deal, the top two performing nations – with the total points earned by the clubs divided by the number of sides in European club competitions – will get the two extra spots.

All parties have agreed that there will be eight matches in the initial Champions League phase, rather than the 10 originally planned.
But European matches WILL be spread over 10 midweek slots.
The Europa League and Conference League will each have a week when matches can be played across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as the standalone competition being played.
