Man Utd set for £12m transfer windfall after ‘reaching verbal agreement with Flamengo to sell Andreas Pereira’

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to receive a pretty payday from the permanent sale of Andreas Pereira to Flamengo, reports suggest.

The 26-year-old midfielder’s been on loan with the Brazilian side since last summer following a previous short-term stint with Lazio.

And after impressing during his tenure at Flamengo, the club’s top brass were eager to make Pereira’s return to his homeland permanent.

However, Flamengo’s hierarchy wasn’t willing to pay the £17million option to buy clause that was initially inserted into Pereira’s loan deal.

Which is why Flamengo’s vice-president Marcos Braz, accompanied by a few of the club’s representatives flew into England over the weekend to try and re-negotiate Pereira’s price with United, as SunSport revealed.

And it’s now been reported that Braz and his cronies’ attempt to recruit Pereira for a lower price was successful.

United and Flamengo’s chiefs agreed to a sum of £12m for the Belgian-born centre-midfielder who’s scored five goals and provided one assist during his time in Brazil, according to Brazilian publication Universo Online.

Most of the fee will be paid up-front and the rest of it will be paid through performance-related add-ons, Universo went on to say.

Despite the decreased transfer fee, the Red Devils will be happy to get paid for a player who hasn’t kicked a ball for them in a competitive match since the 2019-20 season.

Plus, United have made a profit on the former Brazil international star who’s been on their books since 2011 – after joining the club’s academy.

Another part of Pereira’s transfer to Flamengo will see the South American titans acquire 75% of his economic rights.

Although at this stage it’s unclear who will attain the other 25 per cent of his rights as part-ownership of players is forbidden by the Premier League.

But Pereira’s economic rights are the least of United’s problems at the moment following their shock FA Cup fourth-round exit at the hands of Middlesbrough last week on penalties.

Not even the return of midfield talisman Paul Pogba or the attacking prowess of Cristiano Ronaldo who missed a penalty on the night could help Ralf Rangnick’s side into the fifth round of the competition.
