Man Utd hold talks of £6.8m Marko Arnautovic transfer as Erik ten Hag lines up shock swoop for ex-West Ham striker

MANCHESTER UNITED have made a surprise move to land former West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic.

The Red Devils are desperate to land a new central striker and have earmarked the 33-year-old Austrian who is currently with Bologna.

A move worth around £6.8million has been discussed by the two clubs but a deal has yet to be agreed.

Not surprisingly, Arnautovic is believed to be keen to be reunited with Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford.

The pair previously worked together at FC Twente when current United No2 Steve McClaren was in charge.

He went on to play for Stoke and West Ham in the Premier League before moving to China in 2019 and he then went to Italy last season.

Ten Hag refused to confirm the story, saying: “I don’t go into names, it is pre-season, maybe 250 players have been linked with Manchester United so that is it.

“We have two strikers, maybe a third with Marcus Rashford – but he had a really good pre=season on the left side.”

It is understood if Arnautovic does move to United, it would be as a squad player rather than a regular starter.

United have also spoken to RB Salzburg about a move for Benjamin Sesko although the Austrian side are reluctant to let their teenage forward go.

And they are keeping tabs on former Manchester City wide man Leroy Sane, whose future at Bayern Munich looks increasingly uncertain.

With Anthony Martial injured and Cristiano Ronaldo not considered match fit, Ten Hag chose to play new boy Christian Eriksen as a false nine in the opening day defeat to Brighton.
