  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    77. There’s very little movement on the City bench, and it’s beginning to appear one of those games where Pep Guardiola shows he’s as daft and stubborn as he is talented.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    75. Manchester City are having the brunt of the possession, but they cannot find a way through Liverpool right now.

The Reds are dropping into a 4-5-1 shape without the ball, and, of course, they still look threatening on the counter-attack.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool – Liverpool substitution

    73. A first change sees club captain Jordan Henderson replace Naby Keita in midfield.

The England man is on to help his side see this semi-final out.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    72. As big a chance at the other end now goes begging!

Diaz does brilliantly to control Robertson’s long punt forward, and flicks it on towards Salah on the right.

Zinchenko quickly intervenes but his header towards Steffen is short and leaves the Egyptian in on goal.

Salah gets to the loose ball and dinks it over the City keeper – but also the crossbar.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    70. Big save from Alisson!

Jesus is played through one-on-one by Grealish’s pass, and attempts to slip a sidefooter underneath the Liverpool goalkeeper.

A second City goal looks inevitable. However, the Brazilian stopper sticks out a big foot and makes a vital block.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    68. A slapstick 60 seconds.

Fernandinho initially does well to bring the ball out of defence, but then overplays and loses possession.

Thiago then sets up Diaz on the edge of the box, but he gets it caught between his feet before Keita follows up with a 30-yarder that swerves towards the top tier.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    66. Brilliant defensive work again from Ake.

The Dutchman keeps pace Salah all the way back into his own area, and then takes the ball off the toe of the Egyptian just as he was preparing to shoot.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    64. Liverpool are living a little dangerously – unnecessarily so.

Robertson gives away possession inside his own area, and Sterling has the opportunity to pick out a teammate.

However, the England man thumps his cross into the chest of Konate.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool – Mane yellow card

    61. A little bit of retribution? Mane clips the heels of Fernandinho as he threatens to move away in midfield.

It seems bizarre that this petulant clip draws the same punishment as Fernandinho’s thunderous challenge, but them’s the rules.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    60. We hit the hour mark and still no substitutions – which is odd considering how these two managers have been banging on about fixture congestion and the need for five changes.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    58. Kevin De Bruyne is warming up on the sidelines.

Will Pep do the sensible thing and replace Fernandinho?

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool – Fernandinho yellow card

    56. Pow! Fernandinho absolutely clatters Sadio Mane, and the Liverpool players are absolutely furious.

They surround the City midfielder in anger, and then the referee in protest, demanding the strongest action is taken.

Michael Oliver takes time to consider what he’s seen and then pulls out the yellow card.

It’s probably just about the right decision, but the speed at which the Brazilian sent Mane flying through the air made it look much worse.

Having avoided a yellow card in the first half for a poor challenge, Fernandinho can consider himself fortunate to still be on the pitch.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    54. Van Dijk and Alisson combine to come to Liverpool’s rescue.

A delicate pass by Sterling sends Jesus through on goal, but a well-timed nudge from the defender, and a sprawling save from the goalkeeper deny City a second.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    53. A really important intervention from Ake, who denies fellow Dutchman Van Dijk the simplest task of converting Alexander-Arnold’s curling free-kick at the far post.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    50. It’s a different game now – mainly because City look a vaguely competent side since the restart.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool – Keita yellow card

    49. Have Liverpool been rattled by City’s response?

That awaits to be seen, but they have another player on a yellow card after Naby Keita is cautioned for a high lunge on Fernandinho.

  • Man City 1-3 Liverpool

    47. Seventy seconds into the second half and City are back in with a chance.

Gabriel Jesus does well to get himself back onside when his colleagues in midfield win the ball back, and then keeps his cool when he’s released inside the area.

The Brazilian cuts back inside Fabinho and then, after momentarily losing his footing, squares into the path of Jack Grealish, who thumps home.

  • Goal! Jack Grealish pulls one back!

  • Kick-off – Man City 0-3 Liverpool

    45. We’re back underway at Wembley where there are no changes to report.

Each side have five substitutions at their disposal from nine players on the bench.

  • City apologise for Hillsborough interruption

A planned minute’s silence in memory of those lost during the Hillsborough disaster was cut short by referee Michael Oliver following chanting from the Manchester City end of Wembley.

The club have since released the following statement.

Manchester City are extremely disappointed with the actions of some City supporters during the minute’s silence before today’s game. The Club sincerely apologises to all those connected with Liverpool Football Club.”

    Manchester City FC

  • First half facts and figures

Manchester City have had just one attempt at goal in a first half where they were outplayed and outpassed by their Premier League rivals.

  • Half-time – Man City 0-3 Liverpool

Michael Oliver calls time on an extraordinary 45 minutes at Wembley.

  • Man City 0-3 Liverpool

45+1. There will be two minutes of additional time at the end of a first half that has been magical for Liverpool, but a disaster for City.

  • Man City 0-3 Liverpool

    45. It’s three for Liverpool! It’s two for Sadio Mane! And if there was an element of good fortune about his first, his second is pure class!

The Reds cut City open with some lovely intricate passing outside the 18-yard box with Alexander-Arnold and Thiago at the heart of the play.

The Spanish midfielder then flicks a pass right to Mane, who purposefully executes a sliced volley into the bottom right corner beyond Zack Steffen.

Tremendous stuff from Jurgen Klopp’s men!

  • Goal! Sadio Mane makes it three!
