Man City boss Pep Guardiola accuses Anfield crowd of throwing coins at him amid VAR controversy during Liverpool clash

MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola has alleged that coins were thrown at him from the Anfield crowd during VAR controversy against Liverpool.

Phil Foden thought he had given the visitors the lead in the second half when he fired home after Alisson had spilled the ball under pressure from Erling Haaland.

But it was subsequently disallowed when referee Anthony Taylor went over to the monitor and judged Haaland to have fouled Fabinho in the build-up.

Guardiola was raging on the sideline, throwing his arms up in the air, with Sky Sports alleging he shouted “this is Anfield”.

City sources have claimed that an incident occurred and they will file a complaint to the Premier League.

It is also expected to be included in the referee’s report.

Guardiola was also asked by the BBC after the game if he had objects thrown at him.

He responded: “The crowd tried but they didn’t touch me. Maybe next time they will be better.”

Liverpool have said they will ban for life any fan found guilty of throwing objects at Guardiola.

A club spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident involving objects being thrown into the technical area at today’s game.

“This is totally unacceptable behaviour and not the standards of behaviour we expect at Anfield.

“This incident will be fully investigated using CCTV and those found guilty will be punished, including a lifetime ban from Anfield Stadium and a possible football banning order.”

Opposite number Klopp had not been aware of the matter but apologised on behalf of the home club.

He said: “Oh, horrible. I am sorry. I apologise for that. I had no idea about it. It never should happen, never.”

On the disallowed goal, Guardiola added: “The referee said played on, played on, played on, there were a thousand million fouls like this and this one is because we scored a goal.

SALAH THE MATCHWINNER

“So they disallowed because we scored a goal, otherwise it would not have been disallowed.

“We lost because we make a mistake but this is Anfield.”

There was an electric atmosphere between the Prem giants throughout the clash between two of England’s best clubs.

And City’s disallowed goal ultimately proved decisive as Mo Salah scored the only goal of a pulsating clash.

An error from Joao Cancelo let the Egyptian in and he slotted beyond Ederson to give Jurgen Klopp’s men the lead.

But the drama was not done there.

In the final minutes of the game, Liverpool were left enraged when a foul was not given to Salah after a coming together with Bernardo Silva.

And things boiled over on the touchline as Klopp screamed at the assistant referee.

Ref Anthony Taylor then came over and showed the German manager a red card.

That saw him storm down the tunnel and watch the conclusion of the match elsewhere.

But Liverpool did hold on to hand Man City their first Premier League defeat of the season.
