LUKE SHAW is struggling with a foot injury which is threatening his place for club and country.
And that has heaped further misery on his woeful start to the season.
The Manchester United man, 27, started the campaign under Erik ten Hag at left-back ahead of summer signing Tyrell Malacia.
He played the full 90 minutes in the defeat to Brighton before being hooked at half-time as United trailed Brentford 4-0.
Shaw has not featured since with Malacia impressing in the wins over Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal.
And the 21-cap England international was not even in the matchday squads against Leicester or Real Sociedad – although he was an unused sub against the Gunners.

Many expected Shaw to start in the Europa League opener, which United lost 1-0, but he missed out due to what Ten Hag labelled a “small complaint”.
But now the Manchester Evening News have revealed it is a foot issue sidelining him.
Shaw missed the final eight matches of last season after having screws removed from his leg dating back to his double leg break in September 2015.
And his latest problem could see him miss out on Gareth Southgate’s upcoming England squad for the Nations League.

However, Shaw’s team-mates Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho look set to be include.
Rashford’s last action for his country was missing a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout while Sancho hasn’t featured in a Three Lions shirt since last autumn.
