The loss has deepened Liverpool’s problems with the club off to their worst start to a Premier League season since 2012.

And now they face a barrage of injury issues as they look to recover from their struggles.

On a torrid afternoon for Alexander-Arnold, he was first exposed defensively and then things got worse when he was taken off at half-time with injury.

The right-back had been caught by the studs of Gabriel Martinelli in the first-half.

He is now expected to be out for two weeks, according The Athletic.

They also report that it will be between two to three weeks before Matip returns, meaning both defenders are likely to miss Liverpool’s clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 31-year-old was subbed off in the second-half of the 3-2 loss and replaced by Ibrahima Konate, who has just come back from a long injury lay-off himself.

Jurgen Klopp faced more frustration after it emerged Diaz also picked up a knock.

He is set for an extended period out due to a knee injury that will reportedly keep him out until after the World Cup.

It means the Columbian will miss Liverpool’s congested set of 10 games before the tournament in Qatar.

In better news for the Merseyside club, first-choice left-back Andy Robertson is back in training and could even be fit for tomorrow’s tricky trip to Ibrox to face Rangers.
