Leicester 1 Southampton 2: Che Adams scores twice against hometown club after Maddison free-kick to pile misery on Foxes

SAINTS supersub Che Adams came off the bench to dramatically down Leicester with a late double.

The Scotland international earned Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side their first win of the season as Leicester let a lead slip through their fingers for the second home game.

James Maddison’s stunning free kick appeared to set the Foxes up for a much-needed first win.

However Adams had other ideas after replacing new signing Sekou Mara on the hour.

He fired Saints level within eight minutes of entering the fray before stunning Leicester with a spectacular scissors kick six minutes from the end to ease the pressure on his gaffer.

It could have been even worse for the home side, who left to the sound of boos from their own support.

Adamas was cruelly denied his hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game when he spun inside the box and whipped in a shot which beat Danny Ward, only to bounce off the base of the post.

Leicester couldn’t complain as they bucked under a late Southampton onslaught.

Foxes don’t quit according to Leicester City’s motto.

And evergreen striker Jamie Vardy proved it by agreeing a new deal which will take him to June 2024, when he will be 37.

However Wesley Fofana couldn’t have received the memo as he edged one step closer to the King Power exit door.

Brendan Rodgers left his 21-year-old French defender out of his matchday squad and Fofana watched from the main stand as his teammates lost the plot again on home turf.

The ball is now in Chelsea’s court to come up with the £85million bid which would seal the deal for one of the most promising kid defenders in Europe.

One way or another, Leicester need to sort out the situation because the longer it drags on the less time Rodgers will have to find a suitable replacement.

Ironically Saints equaliser after 68 minutes came from a Mo Salisu long throw which Fofana would have been expected to deal with if he had been in the thick of the action.

Instead Wilfred Ndidi watched the ball sail over his head and Saints defender Armel Bella-Kotchap held off his marker to force the ball to Che Adams.

The Southampton sub, who had only been on for eight minutes, expertly drilled a low shot which beat Danny Ward and although James Justin got a despairing touch to the ball he couldn’t keep it out.

Adams second strike was even better.

Kyle Walker-Peters laid the ball off to James Ward-Prowse who powered in a first time cross.

And Adams left his marker Timothy Castagne stunned with a spectacular scissors kick which flew past Ward.

Once again Fofana would have been expected to deal with the cross had he been around.

It was a well deserved and hard earned point for Saints who had fallen behind to another Leicester player whose future has yet to be resolved satisfactorily.

James Maddison remains the one bright spot in his side’s troubled start to the season.

He set his side up with a fabulous free kick as he sent a right-foot shot swerving low round Gavin Bazanu’s three man wall to leave Saints keeper looking a mug.

With someone of Maddison’s pedigree he needed at least one more brick in his wall.

That goal took Maddison’s tally to six goals and four assists in his last seven league appearances.

Rodgers will be praying Leicester can persuade the Newcastle target to commit his long-term future to the club.

However celebrating Saints fans wouldn’t bet on it as they taunted Foxes fans with chants of: “Wesley Fofana, he thinks that you’re sh*t!”
