LaLiga chief Tebas calls Super League rebel clubs ‘bigger liars than Vladimir Putin’ as they push ahead with plans

LA LIGA chief Javier Tebas has accused the three Super League rebels of being ‘bigger liars than Vladimir Putin’.

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli will on Thursday afternoon unveil the latest proposals for the breakaway concept after it was squashed in the space of 48 hours last April.

Agnelli will speak on behalf of Real Madrid and Barcelona at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit in London’s Mayfair.

But Tebas took direct aim at the trio as he launched a remarkable verbal assault.

Tebas said: “When I read about the Super League, these three clubs, they lie more than Vladimir Putin.

“They constantly say it won’t affect national leagues.

“But all the national leagues must be idiots, dumb, because all of us will say it WILL hurt us.

“These clubs want to kill football. They met at Agnelli’s house last week. A meeting we know about.

“They now say they don’t want fixed slots for teams in this Super League.

“It’s false. If they don’t say it, I will. What they want is a European football with two categories, the big Super League and then the domestic leagues.

“They see Uefa as enemies but also the Premier League.

“The growth of the Premier League goes against their model. That is what they are working on. We know this. We have to warn people.”

Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin was equally damning of the ‘nonsense’ of a renewed Super League concept.

He told the Summit: “The three clubs can create their own competition if they want to. We will not stop them.

“But if they try to play in their own competition, they cannot play in our competition.”
