Jadon Sancho pinpoints moment Man Utd were given wake-up call and opens up on Ten Hag’s gruelling extra training session

JADON SANCHO says he is in his best form since joining Manchester United – and there is plenty more to come.

The 22-year-old winger suffered in his first season at Old Trafford and fell out the England squad along the way.

But after scoring two in a three consecutive wins for the Red Devils, Sancho believes he has turned the corner.

He said: “I would say I have still got more to come but I feel good, like I’m in a good moment on and off the pitch.”

Sancho believes it was the Brentford humiliation that gave all the Manchester United players the wake-up call they needed.

Now he believes the team are really starting to gel as Erik Ten Hag’s new era starts to take effect and they prepare for Sunday’s visit of league leaders Arsenal.

The Red Devils were humiliated 4-0 by the Bees having lost their first game at home 2-1 to Brighton.

Sancho said: “We felt we just had to wake up after the Brentford game and we have three wins in a row now so we have to keep it up and get more wins.”

No-nonsense Ten Hag hauled the players in after that Brentford defeat for a brutal 13.8km running session in the baking sun, to make up for the distance their opponents had out-run them by the previous day.

Sancho said: “We had to do it. We shouldn’t have been losing like that. Everyone just took it as extra running and more fitness and after that we just got on with it.”

There was also a two-hour clear the air meeting between all the players and staff the following Thursday and it seemed to have the right affect with United beating Liverpool 2-1 next time out at Old Trafford.

They have followed that up with victories at Southampton and now Leicester.

It is the first time they have won three consecutive league games since April 2021.

And Sancho said: “That is a long time and every game is tough, we just have to be ready and keep up the momentum.

“We’re gelling well together. We are playing more in the style of the manager and everyone is loving it at the moment.

“We are working on style of play in training, some is just the intelligence of our players, getting to know each other well.

“I would say we have more information and more clear a plan of what to do, especially in some areas of the pitch.

“We just stuck to the game plan, as the manager wanted, every training session we are working hard to get better and better.”

As a forward player you always want to create and score goals. I always want to help my team and score

Sancho got the winner at Leicester to add to his opener against Liverpool and is looking more like the player United expected to see when they shelled out £73million to get him from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

He said: “It’s been welcome but the most important thing is the team playing well, when the team plays well, individual moments do come to light so I just have to keep up this form.

“As a forward player you always want to create and score goals. I always want to help my team and score.”

United have also chalked up two consecutive clean sheets with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez impressing as the new centre-back partnership.

Sancho said: “The defence is doing well but it’s not just the defenders, it’s everyone on the pitch putting in 100 per cent. We are putting it in on the training pitch, we have to keep on giving 100 per cent to get results.”

Sancho has been impressed with the new signings not least the passion that Argetine Martinez gives the team.

He said: “Lisandro, Argentinian, crazy guy, but definitely something we need.

“He has courage and strength and helps the team spirit.”

So next up is Arsenal who have a perfect record so far in the league to top the table.

Sancho said: “They have won five in five, we know Arsenal are going to be a tough game. The boys need to recover and be ready for Sunday.”
