Speaking on talkSPORT, former Premier League striker Agbonlahor said: “For me, Fernandes, since he’s been in the Premier League, yes he’s had great stats, goalscoring and assists but he looks like the worst teammate.

“Every time a player gives it away, every time he gives it away, he throws his arms up at his team-mates, he throws his arms up at the bench.

“I’ve played with players like him, you’d be fuming at him. He’ll press now and then. If that was Paul Pogba they would be slaughtering Pogba in the media.

“Fernandes gets away with murder. Did you see Fernandes do anything? It’s easy to say Maguire, Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho.”

The Portuguese playmaker signed for United in January of 2020, and enjoyed great success as he helped United get into the top four that season.

He consolidated this form with a stunning campaign where he contributed 45 goals and assists in 58 games.

However, since then Fernandes has struggled to live up to his high standards, contributing just 23 goals last season and has looked lost in the opening games of this season.

“Fernandes, for me, I can’t remember the last time he had a decent game. He’s always the one that’s throwing his arms up in the air. Even when he gives it away,” Agbonlahor added.

“He could pass it to you but pass it out of play and he’d blame you. That’s the sort of player Fernandes is. The worst possible team-mate.”

Fernandes played the full duration of the United-Brentford game, despite his anonymous display throughout it.

The aftermath of the game saw Erik ten Hag label his players as “rubbish and poor” as he blasted individual errors for the defeat.

The fallout also saw Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp involved in a heated argument as the former United captain went on an explosive rant against the Glazers.
