  • More penalty heartache…

We have a half-time update for you from SunSport reporter Martin Blackburn…

“More penalty heartache for Ghana at the hands of Uruguay.

“And to rub salt in the wounds, Luis Suarez once again taking centre stage with a couple of assists.

“The Black Stars revenge mission for what happened in Johannesburg 12 years ago is not exactly going to plan.

“Two goals from Flamengo’s Giorgian de Arrascaeta in the space of six minutes have put the South Americans on the brink of the knock-out stages.

“You might have guessed Suarez had a hand in both of his country’s first goals of the tournament so far.

“Yet how different this Group H showdown could have been if Ghana had scored the spot-kick given to them by the VAR for a foul by keeper Sergio Rochet on Mohammed Kudus.

“Former Swansea forward Andre Ayew – who now plays in Qatar – saw his tame spot-kick saved by Rochet.

“Ghana have a lot to do to get back in the contest while Uruguay cannot start celebrating yet. They will need to keep an eye on what is happening in the game between Portgual and South Korea as a goal for Son Heung Min’s men could change the complexion of the group again.”

  • Half-time stats.

This is what the match stats are looking like at half-time, with Uruguay really dominating in the game so far…

The match stats between Ghana and Uruguay at half-time.
  • HT. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

The referee calls the first half to a close, and it is Uruguay who are in the driving seat now, they go into half-time with a two goal lead.

  • 45+8. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

This is more like the Uruguay side that people were expecting to see at the 2022 World Cup.

They have been admittedly excellent in the first half, De Arrascaeta has had a huge part to play in that.

  • 45+5. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

It is half time in the game between Portugal and South Korea, the scoreline in that game is 1-1.

  • 45+2. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

Uruguay look like they have the blueprint set out now for the rest of this game; to be patient and work Ghana.

They play the ball around their defence, and are really going to make Ghana work to get the ball back.

  • 45. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

There will be eight minutes of added time.

  • 44. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

    That is vintage Luis Suarez.

A cheeky, cheeky nutmeg on Inaki Williams in the corner of the pitch.

He drives towards the box, but a tackle bounces back off of him and goes out for a goal kick.

  • 42. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

That looks painful on Alidou as there is a potential stamp on the Ghanian from De Arrascaeta.

He is screaming in pain, and there is not even a hint of action being taken.

  • 40. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

We have an update from Martin Lipton, who can get a real feel for the feeling inside the ground, and this is what he has to say:

“The Ghana fans cannot believe what they have witnessed.

    “Absolutely broken in the stands.

“All those hopes, fading to dust.

“They need to get a grip in the game. One goal and it’s all change.”

  • 38. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

Nunez gets through and sends Baba Rahman to the shops before looking to cut the ball back to Luis Suarez.

He wants a free-kick after feeling like he is fouled, not for the first time in his career.

  • 36. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

Kudus has a go from outside the box for Ghana, but it is wide.

Ghana games have given us nothing but entertainment so far in this tournament, and it is still only the first half.

It is not over yet for the Black Stars…

  • 34. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

Ghana are in real trouble now.

Luis Suarez picked up the ball in the box after a touch from Darwin Nunez. and he lifted the ball up high over Seidu at right back.

It fell to Georgian De Arrascaeta, who took his time and smashed the ball past Ati-Zigi.

    Great finish.

  • 32. Ghana 0-2 Uruguay.

It’s 2-0! De Arrascaeta has his brace, and what a strike that is!

Assisted by Luis Suarez once again!

  • 30. Ghana 0-1 Uruguay.

South Korea have equalised against Portugal.

That means as it stands, Portugal will top the group and Uruguay will go through in second place…

  • 28. Ghana 0-1 Uruguay.

That is poor defensively from Ghana…

A mess of a clearance from Seidu falls at the feet of Luis Suarez, who fires a low shot at goal.

Ati-Zigi really doesn’t do enough with it and it bounces off of the goalkeeper for De Arrascaeta to head home.

Could Ghana face World Cup agony at the hands of Luis Suarez and Ghana once again?

  • 26. Ghana 0-1 Uruguay.

There it is! Uruguay’s first goal of this World Cup finals!

It’s Georgian De Arrascaeta! Assisted by Luis Suarez!

  • 24. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

Cleared off the line by Salisu!

Suarez dispossesses Amartey at the back and plays in Nunez, who dinks the ball over the top of Ati-Zigi.

It looks like it must bounce in, but Salisu of Southampton is there to clear the ball off the line.

This game has all the drama of 12 years ago!

  • 22. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

    Missed!

Andre Ayew has missed from the spot, just as Ghana did 12 years ago…

It is a really poor penalty it must be said, it is not powerful enough or precise enough.

Rochet makes the save to his left hand side.

  • 20. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

A yellow card for Darwin Nunez, who is trying to get access to the penalty spot to scuff it up…

It is going to be Andre Ayew against Sergio Rochet from the spot…

  • 18. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

    Penalty for Ghana!

  • 18. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

However it IS being checked for offside by VAR, and we could have a penalty for Ghana here, wouldn’t that be ironic?

  • 16. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

Close for Ghana, denied by offside!

Jordan Ayew drove towards the goal and fired a shot, that was saved by the Uruguayan goalkeeper.

Kudus then picked up the rebound, and chipped the ball over the keeper before being bought down.

Initially I thought it was a penalty, but the referee blows for offisde.

  • 14. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

Ghana fail to do so, and a flick on by Suarez falls to Darwin Nunez who drives at the Ghanaian defence before eventually being dispossessed.

  • 12. Ghana 0-0 Uruguay.

Uruguay have definitely started the better of the two sides, as De Arrascaeta whips the ball into the middle for Uruguay.

It is met by Ati-Zigi and Ghana will look to clear.
