Fuming Wycombe striker Akinfenwa confronts MK Dons fans over abusive chant before supporter is ‘kicked out’

ADEBAYO AKINFENWA furiously confronted MK Dons fans this afternoon after being subjected to abusive chants.

The Wycombe Wanderers ace was on the receiving end of vile chanting during Saturday afternoon’s match at Adams Park.

Akinfenwa, 39, received the abuse as he went through his warm-up routine on the sidelines.

And ten minutes before half-time, he lost his rag and confronted fans allegedly aiming abuse his way.

Play was halted and one of the supporters was reportedly booted out of the stadium.

Wycombe gaffer Gareth Ainsworth was spotted pleading with travelling fans to stop singing the abusive chant.

MK Dons’ official account followed Ainsworth’s suit, urging supporters not to engage in abusive chanting.

They tweeted: “We ask that the #MKDons fans please refrain from singing that chant.

Wycombe then posted a message on the big screen urging all supporters in attendance not to engage in abusive chanting.

It read: “Wycombe Wanderers asks all supporters to respect all ground regulations in relation to the use of abusive or discriminatory language.”

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook was in attendance at Adams Park and gave a detailed account of the ‘disgraceful scenes’.

He said: “I have to stress they are not of a racial nature, but we certainly don’t condone what is being sung by these travelling MK Dons fans.

“He was so incensed, Akinfenwa, that he actually went over to the front row of the stand to try and confront some of those who were taunting him.

“There is at least one travelling support who has been hauled out by the stewards.

“Gareth Ainsworth was on the pitch at one stage and referee Robert Lewis did stop play while it all calmed down.

“The stewards are still trying to deal with it, it’s absolutely disgraceful scenes from that away end – a jam-packed away end for this Bucks derby.”

A fiercely-contested Buckinghamshire derby was decided in the 13th minute when Scott Twine struck for the visitors to score the only goal of the match.

Victory at Adams Park saw Ainsworth’s troops leapfrog their hosts into fourth place in the League One table.
