Fuming Gary Neville says Man Utd transfer bids should be REJECTED with Erik ten Hag ‘shocked’ by squad he inherited

GARY NEVILLE has suggested clubs should REJECT transfer approaches from Manchester United knowing how desperate they are.

The Red Devils endured a horrid start to the Premier League season over the weekend, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Pascal Gross scored twice before half time to give The Seagulls a comfortable lead at Old Trafford, and while a second half own-goal from Alexis Mac Allister fired United back into the game, it was Graham Potter’s men who claimed all three points.

Man Utd fans were left fuming after the final whistle, while club legend Neville was in disbelief at how far the club has fallen.

When speaking for Sky Sports after the game, he said: “The first thing you do when the phone rings from Man Utd is reject the bid.

“Because the reality of it is you know full well they’ve lost that game today, they’re actually negotiating now from an even worse position than they were yesterday, and that’s a bigger problem from them.”

Neville then went on to react to the prospect of Man Utd signing former West Ham striker Marko Arnautovic, adding: “I don’t know. I have no comment on it.

“I’ve got a comment on everything in the world apart from Man Utd signing Marko Arnautovic today.

“I’ve got nothing to say!”

New United boss Erik ten Hag has struggled to tempt any of his top transfer targets to Old Trafford this summer.

The Dutchman and his staff have been in talks to sign former Ajax star Frenkie de Jong for months, however, the midfielder is adamant that he does not want to make the switch.

Man Utd have already missed out on signing the likes of Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Darwin Nunez and Richarlison, so club chiefs are now scrambling to make some more additions before the transfer window closes next month.

Austrian striker Arnautovic has been heavily linked with a £7.5million move to Old Trafford recently.

However, Neville has urged the club not to repeat previous mistakes.

He said: “We’ve seen (Radamel) Falcao, (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, (Edinson) Cavani, (Odion) Ighalo.

“We’ve seen it now for the past eight to 10 years, it’s a pattern.

“It’s happening time and time again. We don’t even get angry, we don’t even get animated about it anymore.

“It’s got to the point where I don’t even want to talk about it.”

He then went on to add: “I think it would have been a shock to him (Ten Hag).”

The Red Devils travel to London next weekend to take on Brentford in what is set to be another challenging fixture for Ten Hag and his squad.
