Fans baffled as footage emerges of Cucurella hugging Xhaka before Arsenal’s goal against Chelsea

CHELSEA fans were left baffled by Marc Cucurella’s bizarre defending for Arsenal’s winner.

The Blues suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats with Gabriel poking home from a corner to give his side a 1-0 win.

The centre-back was left unmarked as he tapped in Buakyo Saka’s corner with Thiago Silva losing track of his Brazilian compatriot.

But fans noticed Cucurella failed to clear the danger despite the ball curling closely past him.

Footage emerged showing the Spaniard was too preoccupied with marking Granit Xhaka, but weirdly stood still hugging the Swiss to stop him from reaching the ball.

Some fans found Cucurella’s defending strange or amusing while others were more critical of the former Brighton star.

Xhaka inadvertently played an important role in the goal and he had a busy game which included winding up Trevoh Chalobah and sparking a melee late in the second half.

The midfielder then allowed his passion to get the better of him a second time as he swore in his post-match interview.

Speaking of the travelling suppoort the Arsenal star said: “”Look at that atmosphere it’s f***ing unbelievable.”
