But, as a group of Liverpool stars scrambled to block the winger’s strike, Virgil van Dijk allowed him the time and space to get the shot away.

The Dutchman then proceeded to watch as the ball flew past him and into the bottom left corner of the goal.

Fans took to Twitter to react, with one person writing: “People compare Van Dijk to PL greats, that defending was criminal.”

Another slammed the defender, adding: “Can we all admit that Van Dijk was no more than a one season wonder? So overrated.”

A third said: “Van Dijk has lost his confidence.”

Roy Keane also lasted the Dutch ace at half-time for not closing Sancho down, while another fan added: “Van Dijk not fancy doing anything there?”

Van Dijk’s Liverpool teammate James Milner was also fuming at him for allowing Sancho to strike.

The midfielder stormed over to the Dutchman as Man Utd wheeled away in celebration.
