RAFA BENITEZ has signed Glasgow Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson in a bid to boost Everton’s defensive options.
The Scotland starlet, 21, joins the Toffees on a five-year deal after the Merseyside outfit had two bids for the player knocked back last summer.
The defender’s move to the club, who face Hull City in the FA Cup, follows the January arrival of ex-Dynamo Kiev left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko.
And it comes following some disappointing results which have seen Benitez’s side lose four of their last five league games.
Patterson said: “It was an easy choice to sign.
This is a massive club with huge history and the fanbase is tremendous.
“Obviously we aren’t in the place where we want to be right now, but we can definitely get there with the talent in the changing room and staff here, and I have full belief we can do that.
“It is really exciting to come to a club that has huge talent in the team. I am going to work my socks off and hopefully, I can do well with them in training and in games.
“It was also great for me knowing the manager really wanted me here and that made my decision. When a club really wants you, it makes your mind up early on.”

Everton’s swoop for Patterson will see Rangers earn around £12million with £4m in add-ons.
The right-back, who received his first senior Scotland cap in June, made his senior debut for Rangers in January 2020 making 27 appearances across all competitions for the team.
The 6ft 1in defender’s performances for the Glasgow giants saw him earn plaudits from ex-Ibrox gaffer Steven Gerrard and Scotland team-mates Andy Robertson and John McGinn
And he made his Scotland debut in June in a 1-0 win against Luxembourg before scoring his first senior goal in November in a 2-0 World Cup qualifier defeat of Moldova.
It is thought Patterson could be seen as a long-term replacement for Toffees skipper Seamus Coleman.
The Goodison Park veteran will turn 34 in October this year.
Patterson added: “I wanted to come here from the very start. I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to playing in front of the fans at Goodison.
“Long-term, I want to nail down a starting position and win some trophies to make the fans proud.”
