But with the West Londoners losing central defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Chelsea could be increasingly desperate to bring in Kounde.
If that signing cannot be completed again the club may turn their attention to RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.
The 20-year-old has been a key man for the German side, featuring 46 times this season for the DFB Pokal winners.
Spurs are also believed to be interested in a move for him.
Di Marzio stressed that like all deals: “It depends on the project of the new chairman, how’s the budget, how are the priorities.
“We still don’t know who is going to be in charge.
“Tuchel, obviously knows what the club needs but it depends on who is the technical person who has to get Chelsea’s deals done.”
