Charles, who will now be known as King Charles III, gave a sombre statement as he led the nation in mourning last night.

The Premier League and EFL have postponed all matches this weekend along with a host of other sporting events.

Tottenham are also scheduled to play at home on Saturday 17 September against Leicester City at 5:30pm with that match still expected to go ahead.

However, there are fears that Sunday’s London matches could be postponed or even moved to another location.

No sporting events are expected to take place during the Queen’s funeral parade and service, expected to be on Monday 19 September.

That could mean that there will not be enough officers available to work at both Stamford Bridge and the Brentford Community Stadium.

That scenario would also provide a major fixture headache for Premier League chiefs to go with the re-arrangement of this weekend’s games.

Uefa announced that Champions League football WILL go ahead for Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham next midweek after The Queen’s death.

The Blues host RB Leipzig on Wednesday while Liverpool welcome Ajax to Anfield 24 hours earlier.

That could mean that the Prem game between the two the following Sunday is moved forward to Saturday.

However, Arsenal will be loath to move their match at Brentford to the day prior as they take on PSV at the Emirates in the Europa League on Thursday 15 September.
