Brighton 5 Leicester 2: Seagulls continue brilliant start with rollercoaster win by seaside as winless Foxes stay bottom

‘YOU’RE getting sacked in the morning’ rang around the Amex as Brighton heaped more misery on Brendan Rodgers and Leicester.

Life came at the Foxes boss fast as Kelechi Iheanacho took the lead in just 52 seconds to hand Leicester a shred of wafer-thin confidence after a hellish start to the season.

But what came next was the ultimate capitulation as Brighton hit back with a leveller from Solly March, thanks to a Luke Thomas deflection and a goal from Moises Caicedo within just five minutes of each other.

Leicester were back in it through Patson Daka’s equaliser before Leandro Trossard was on target and an Alexis Mac Allister penalty decimated any hope for the Foxes.

Mac Allister rubbed more salt in Leicester’s wounds by curling in a sizzling free-kick in the dying seconds for the Seagulls’ fifth.

The scoreline could have been uglier had the Argentine’s thunderbolt strike on 47 minutes not been ruled off for offside after a shambolic VAR check.

The result cemented Brighton’s place in the top four while Leicester are now winless in their first six games and rock bottom of the Premier League table.

It seemed as though Rodgers must have given his side the kick up the backside they needed because there was no messing around from the Foxes at the start.

Just one minute in, Thomas and Harvey Barnes made Solly March look like Scrappy Doo as they wrestled the ball off him and he flung to the floor in the process.

Barnes teed up Patson Daka who fired a low cross to Kelechi Iheanacho to fire home from close range.

The Nigerian forward has been directly involved in 20 goals in his last 25 starts in the top-flight for the Foxes, being 15 times on target and adding five assists.

But Brighton ruthlessly hit back and wasted no time in getting back into things with a nine minute leveller.

Leandro Trossard whipped an inch-perfect cross onto March’s noggin that bounced into the net off Luke Thomas’ body.

Just six minutes later Brighton hit a second as James Maddison gave away the ball to Enock Mwepu, who broke free and released Moises Caicedo into the box, took a touch and lashed it into the far corner.

You can see why Graham Potter joked that £42million would only cover the cost for Caicedo’s boots and that he’s worth £100m when the transfer window was opened.

Rodgers was then treated to his rendition of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” from Brighton fans after what had been such a bright start for Leicester.

The Foxes looked ragged and Danny Welbeck latched onto a kamikaze clearance from goalkeeper Danny Ward to nip beyond him and loft a shot just inches over the empty net.

Cracks were forming in the Foxes camp and Ward and Wilfred Ndidi were embroiled in a verbal spat after the defensive cock up.

The Welsh stopper gave Ndidi a tongue-lashing for shirking his defensive duties when really his own awkward touch was to blame.

But Leicester picked themselves up and dusted themselves off to draw level before the break on 33 minutes.

Youri Tielemans sent a dipping and curling pass onto the path of Daka who oozed confidence to beat Robert Sanchez and fire home before celebrating with a jaw-dropping backflip.

There was another blistering start to the second-half with Brighton looking as though they had nudged back in front with a third goal on 47 minutes.

Pascal Gross’ free-kick was cleared only as far as Mac Allister who unleashed a rocket strike into the top corner, sparking mayhem at the Amex.

But a cacophony of boos rang around the south coast stadium as there was a lengthy VAR review for an offside in the build up before referee Tony Harrington checked the monitor.

A host of Albion players were on the wrong side of the Leicester defence as the free-kick came in so there was a delay with getting the lines up to properly check the offside.

Graham Potter shook his head in fury at the chaotic review and to make matters worse it was then chalked off due to Mwepu being offside and making contact before the ball fell to Mac Allister.

Trossard picked up the pieces by linking up with Gross before darting in the box and unleashing a low drive into the far corner on 64 minutes.

Brighton were bossing it and another blow was inflicted on Leicester as Trossard was shoved over by Ndidi down the byline and Harrington pointed to the spot.

Mac Allister was given his time to shine again and stepped up to crack home Brighton’s fourth from the spot on 71 minutes before whipping a peach of a free kick into the net in the dying seconds.
