Brentford fans BOO Christian Eriksen as former Bees hero returns as a Man Utd player for first time

MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Christian Eriksen was booed on his return to Brentford on Saturday evening.

The Dane, 30, started the match at the Gtech Community Stadium – the first time Bees fans had watched him since he left them in the summer.

And as soon as the match got underway it was evident there was no love lost between the ex-Spurs man and the Brentford supporters.

He was booed seconds into the match and the home contingent continued to do so throughout the first half.

And the hostile atmosphere seemed to get to Eriksen when he was robbed of possession inside his own area as Mathias Jensen nipped in to score a second goal for Brentford.

It was the worst possible start to Eriksen’s return as United capitulated inside the opening 20 minutes.

Eriksen, who suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch at the Euros last summer, joined Man Utd on a free transfer.

But he decided to make the move to Old Trafford despite a sensational spell in West London.

He was integral in keeping Thomas Frank’s side in the Premier League, providing them with the midfield creativity they were crying out for.

But it has not been the ideal beginning to his United career as they suffered a 2-1 home loss to Brighton on the opening weekend.

Eriksen rather bizarrely played as a false No9 – a role he had never previously taken up in his career.

For the Brentford clash, he returned to being part of a midfield three.
