ARSENAL icon Ian Wright’s grandson D’Margio Wright-Phillips has been handed a new contract by Stoke City just days after scoring his first goal for the club.
D’Margio – whose dad is Shaun Wright-Philips – has had a whirlwind month for the Potters.
The 20-year-old only made his debut for Stoke at the beginning of January in their FA Cup third-round tie against Leyton Orient.
But Wright-Philips Jnr was just getting started and followed up his debut with a man-of-the-match display on his first Championship start in Stoke’s win over Hull City a few weeks ago.
And then, the winger continued his impressive run of form by capping his run-out against Fulham with his first-ever senior goal.
Wright was ecstatic and shared his jubilant reaction to his grandson’s goal on Twitter.
Now, to top off a memorable month, Stoke have awarded the youngest Wright with a new two-year contract for his remarkable contribution.

Speaking on Stoke’s decision to give Wright-Philips a new deal, Potters boss Michael O’Neill said to the club’s website: “D’Margio had been training with the first team for a number of weeks before we decided the time was right to give him an opportunity to play.
“He is still a young player with a great deal of development ahead of him but and he has really impressed myself and the coaching staff with his attitude and willingness to learn and deserves his new contract.”
The Potters will hope Wright-Philips can help fire them back into the Premier League with his goals.
If the youngster does manage to feature in the Prem at some point in his career, he’ll get the chance to try and emulate his granddad’s incredible scoring tally.
While he was at Arsenal, Wright bagged 104 goals in just 191 Prem games.
