ARSENAL showed a new-look grit to come away from Selhurst Park with a 2-0 win on the opening day of the Premier League season.
And some fans are already getting ahead of themselves following the result.
A first-half header from Gabriel Martinelli and a Marc Guehi own goal banished the demons of the opening night defeat to Brentford a year ago.
For the second consecutive year Mikel Arteta and Co faced a banana-skin first fixture.
The win on Friday evening put the Gunners top of the league overnight with the rest of the Prem yet to play.
And fans were quick to revel in being on the summit of the table.

There were loud chants of “We are top of the league” from the travelling Arsenal supporters.
Meanwhile much of the fanbase on social media joked the result indicated an unbeaten season, in a repeat of the 2003-04 campaign, could be on the cards.
One overexcited supporter wrote on Twitter: “STOP THE COUNT. League is over. Invincibles 2.0 is here.”
Another added: “We are only 37 games away from becoming Invincibles II.”

While a third said: “I guess the invincibles are back @Arsenal.”
Arsenal’s stay at the top of the Prem was short-lived, with Tottenham’s 4-1 win over Southampton meaning Antonio Conte’s side went to the summit on goals scored.
But optimism at the Emirates remains following the opening day win.
The Gunners return to action next Saturday, with Leicester the visitors to North London, as the quest for a second Invincibles continues.
