Tyson Fury could fight Dillian Whyte in front of 90,000 fans as Wembley ’emerges as frontrunner’ to host grudge match

TYSON FURY and Dillian Whyte could take their hotly-anticipated British grudge match to Wembley Stadium.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren guaranteed the fight following a record-breaking £30.6million purse bid.

And initially Cardiff’s 75,000-seater Principality Stadium was favourite to host the mandatory title fight.

But it is believed that option has now fallen through, with Manchester also off the cards, ending hopes of a dream hometown homecoming for Fury.

According to The Times, instead Wembley ‘has emerged as the frontrunner’ to stage the domestic title clash.

England’s home stadium is no stranger to box office boxing matches, having homed two Anthony Joshua, 32, fights.

The first was a thrilling 2017 win against heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko, now 45, which set a record with 90,000 in attendance.

But two years later, for AJ’s knockout over Alexander Povetkin, 42, the capacity dropped to around 70,000.

Joshua’s most recent fight, a September loss to Oleksandr Usyk, 35, was staged in front of 68,000 at Tottenham’s stadium.

And it is believed the Premier League side are again an option to play host for Fury and Whyte, both 33.

Another contender includes West Ham’s London Stadium, which is capable of housing 80,000.

Fury has not boxed in the UK since 2018, with his last five fights coming Stateside.

But both his promoters, Warren and US Hall of Famer Bob Arum, confirmed the Gypsy King will make a homecoming to face Whyte.
