Josh Warrington broken jaw confirmed with hospital X-ray revealing brutal price of victory over Kiko Martinez

JOSH WARRINGTON broke his jaw in his stunning world title win over Kiko Martinez, an X-ray confirmed.

The Leeds Warrior, 31, produced a magnificent performance from the first bell.

He secured an emphatic TKO in the seventh round to reclaim his IBF featherweight crown.

But despite winning, Warrington was rushed straight to hospital amid fears it had come at a cost and he had done some serious damage.

And they were proven with a scan.

Promoter Eddie Hearn shared the image of the crack on social media at 3.50am.

Warrington wins back world title with stunning TKO win over Kiko Martinez

He captioned the pic: “Confirmed from the hospital @J_Warrington clean break of his jaw prior to stopping Kiko Martinez to win the world title tonight.”

And Warrington referenced the brutal injury in his own post this morning.

He wrote: “Team Warrington and my family have pushed me all the way this camp and again and again we’ve said Kiko would not be fitter, stronger or faster than me on the night and we proved right.

“But Kiko can still bang, the body can feel it this morning!”

There were also suggestions the two-time champ had sustained a suspected broken hand.

Warrington’s brilliant win now sets him on the road for unification bouts or a massive domestic dust-up with Leigh Wood at Nottingham Forest’s stadium.

But before that, he revealed he wanted “bread and butter pudding, a cheeseburger, a pint and sex with the wife” to celebrate the momentous victory, the 31st of his career and first since 2019.

Warrington – who was joined by Leeds defender Luke Ayling for the ring walk – said: “Listen I’ve got my belt back. It wasn’t just for me, not just my wife and kids, but for all this lot that supported me.

“We might not do the same numbers as the big boys – the AJs and the Furys – but I’d rather have an arena full of these lot than 100,000 tourists any day of the week.

“There is no place like this in the world, never mind the country.

“I know I’m not everybody’s favourite cup of tea – Yorkshire tea – but when I’m on it and these turn out, there’s nothing like it in the world.

“We do alright and we’re not bad. Love you Leeds.”

Asked about a potential clash with Wood, Warrington added: “If we need to go and boot the doors off of the City Ground, we’ll do it. 

“Away day, we’ll do it but for a long time we’ve wanted to go to the States.

“These lot have their passports at the ready, credit cards at the ready. We want an away day.”
