Inside Katie Taylor’s celebrations with family after Amanda Serrano win in Madison Square Garden boxing classic

KATIE TAYLOR celebrated her win over Amanda Serrano alongside her family which had travelled over to see her make history.

Taylor, 35, retained her undisputed world lightweight titles against the Puerto Rican in an instant MSG classic at the end of April.

Her mother, Bridget, and her brother, Pete, were both photographed at the New York cauldron on the night.

Afterwards, the Bray bomber shared adorable pictures alongside Bridget in the dressing rooms.

She spent some of her well-earned post-fight, celebratory down time with her family, captioned: “Golden moments with the fam!”

The Olympic gold medalist posted a photo to Instagram alongside Pete, her other brother, Lee, and her sister Sarah.

The four were sat around what could have, at one point, been a camp fire.

In an adjoining video, Lee is playing a guitar and singing a cover of Bob Marley’s Redemption Song, with cousin Jake McMahon present at the very edge of the frame.

Alongside time with her family, Katie’s post-fight activities included a trip to Las Vegas as a guest of honour for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s shock defeat to Dmitry Bivol last weekend.

Despite being just a week on from her bruising victory over Amanda Serrano, she was showing few if any receipts from that war.

In the fight itself, she was busted open over her right eye, while she also bled through her nose on a couple of occasions.

She dished it out as well as she took it, dealing a bloody blow to Amanda Serrano’s eye in the latter stages of the clash.

Her heroics has seen a Dublin City councillor tabling a motion to set the stage for a statue in the capital city.

There had been serious considerations for her being dedicated a statue in her home county of Wicklow after she beat Delfine Persoon to be crowned undisputed lightweight champ.

However, she herself turned it down, although her latest historic achievement has cropped up talks of it happening again.

If she doesn’t get a statue, the same possibility could come up again should she rematch Serrano at Croke Park.

CROKE ARTIST

The rumour mill has been fuelled by speculation that, for the first time in her pro career, Taylor could fight in Ireland, with Croke Park the front runner.

Taylor described fighting Serrano at GAA HQ would be BETTER than headlining, and winning at, a sold-out Madison Square Garden.

Momentum has been rolling to get the fight signed.

RTE are in talks to broadcast it free-to-air should it happen, while it is understood that DAZN would have no issue with the time difference between Ireland and USA.

The first fight attracted record viewership for the streaming platform.

Various institutions have suggested willingness to help it happen, including the Irish government and the GAA (scheduling dependent), while the Croke Park Residents’ Association would not stand in the way.

Matchroom Boxing head honcho Eddie Hearn described Croke Park as his first choice venue for the rematch.

However, the Brit also said that MSG are interested in holding it, while he hinted that Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm have voiced interested in facing Taylor next.
