DEONTAY WILDER has claimed he was offered the chance to fight Anthony Joshua “as insurance” ahead of the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
AJ was much improved from the first fight, where he lost from unanimous decision last September.
But Usyk was just too good once more and edged the thrilling contest by split decision in Saudi Arabia to retain his heavyweight titles.
Two judges scored the fight in favour of Usyk, with one going 115-113 in favour of Joshua.
Post-fight, Wilder weighed in and seemed to suggest that he had been approached about a potential fight with Joshua ahead of the Usyk rematch.
The Bronze Bomber says Joshua’s team knew he was going to lose to his 35-year-old Ukrainian rival.

Wilder tweeted: “They tried to lock me in for insurance because they knew he wasn’t going to Win.
“This is strictly a business, Not a sport there’s a different.”
WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury, who came out on top of a three-fight thriller with Wilder, also gave his assessment.
Fury has suggested he’s coming out of retirement and “is here to stay, forever”.

He said: “After watching that, the both of them were s***e.
“It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights I have ever seen. It was bulls***. Come on!
“I annihilate both of them on the same night. F***ing s***e.
“Get your f***ing cheque book out, because the Gypsy King is here to stay, forever!”
Fury may have set his sights on an undisputed clash with Usyk, but Wilder and Joshua find themselves in a uniquely similar position.
Wilder will restart his journey in heavyweight boxing, after having some time off, when he faces Robert Helenius on Saturday, October 15, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York City.
The Finnish fighter has shared the ring with the likes of Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, and Adam Kownacki.
