Chris Eubank Jr hopes to set up Canelo Alvarez fight in the UK with win against Brit rival Liam Williams

CHRIS EUBANK JR is ready to welcome Canelo Alvarez to fight in the UK – but first vows to silence British rival Liam Williams.

Mexican superstar Canelo has earned the nickname ‘Brit Basher’ having already beaten SEVEN English opponents in his career already.

The four-division champion most recently became undisputed super-middleweight king and even requested a move to CRUISERWEIGHT.

Eubank Jr, 32, believes Canelo, 31, is becoming short of worthy rivals – which puts him in prime position to challenge boxing’s pound-for-pound best.

He told Sky Sports: “The fight will happen. It has to happen. He is running out of guys to fight. Canelo needs to fight guys that people will be excited about.

I’ve been told he wants to fight in the UK. In the UK, there is absolutely nobody else who would be a better fight for him than me. It has got to happen.”

The last man from these shores to share the ring with Canelo was great rival Billy Joe Saunders, 32, Eubank Jr’s great rival following his 2014 loss.

Callum Smith, 31, and brother Liam, 33, Amir Khan, 35,Rocky Fielding, 34, Ryan Rhodes, 45, and Matthew Hatton, 40, have also fallen victim to Alvarez.

Eubank Jr added: “All these guys do the same thing – they dance, trying to not get knocked out, but eventually Canelo catches up with them.

“His bread and butter is to hunt guys that run away. You have got to fight fire with fire. Make him respect you. That’s exactly what I would do.

“Let those hands go hard and fast! So he doesn’t end up just teeing off on you, against the ropes.”

Eubank Jr admitted Canelo is the only fighter he would move back up to super-middleweight for, instead preferring to campaign down at middleweight.

Gennady Golovkin, 39 remains his No1 priority this year, but Welshman Williams, 29, will attempt to put a stop to that this Saturday in Cardiff.

Eubank Jr said: “We are in his back garden. But we are feeling strong and fit. I am very motivated.

“I am a stand-up guy and a standard-bearer for the sport, someone that kids can look up to and say: ‘I want to be like him’.

“Their parents want them to be like me. Williams is a bad representative of the sport. The way he talks, the way he holds himself.

“He needs to be pushed out of boxing. He’s in for a serious and rude awakening.

“Anywhere the fight goes, he’ll be out of his depth. A fight, a boxing match, chess, a punch-up. I’ll be on him all night until he quits.

“I don’t see this fight going 12 rounds. My objective is to punish him until he gets knocked out or he quits.”
